Over 125 Youths From Africa Are Gathering In Ganta City, Nimba County For The 2019 Liberia International Model United Nations
A 5-day model United Nations conference organized by the Youth Action for Peace, Development and Justice (YAPDJ) and Volunteers Hub Liberia has started at the peace Empire Hotel in Ganta City, Nimba County with over 125 youths from Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Nigeria in attendance. The conference, which is expected to end on August 15, 2019, will train young people in public speaking, diplomacy and the United Nations voting proceedings. In addition, participants will have the opportunity widen their social network and come out with resolutions that would be presented some of the UN institutions in Liberia.
During a 2-hour opening ceremony, the Swedish Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Ingrid Wetterqvist congratulated the organizers for the step taking to ensuring young people have a clear understanding about how the United Nations assemblies are conducted and youths can build interest in diplomacy. She further informed the youths and special guests at the opening ceremony about the work the Swedish Government is doing in Liberia to empower youths.
For his part, the Secretary of the general Assembly lauded Volunteers Hub Liberia for their support given to the 2019 conference, which made the conference bigger than the previous year edition. He further went on to appreciate all the delegates and speakers attending the event and appealed to the participants to pay key attention to every activity of the event.
